WELL MB08 Airsoft Spring Sniper Rifle Tan Manual
The Well MB08 Airsoft Sniper Rifle, featuring breath taking 450-500 FPS sniping power (0.20g). All these top features makes the WELL MB08 become one of the most powerful and the best available in Airsoft.
The mechanism of this airsoft rifle is precise and top quality. The spring power bolt is suprisingly easy to pull back for a airsoft gun that is shooting 450-500 fps w/ 0.2gbb right out of the box. Futhermore, the ergonomically designed grip and stock make this rifle extremely comfortable for the user to keep it trained on target.

Well, it's almost fall project time, so I guess I'm starting this one a bit early. Someone posted a thread on scout rifles a while back, but I can't find the thread so I can't give credit to the person that got this idea in my head.
Here is the more or less finished project, read the thread for details on its buildup:
Basically, I wanted to build a proper scout rifle, based on (but not following to the letter) Jeff Cooper's ideology.
The rules are simple:
1. Must be short, 39" or less.
2. Unloaded weight of less than 6.6 lbs (too random, I'll stick with sub-7)
3. Forward mounted low magnification scope (I'm not doing it for his reasons, which I'll get into later)
4. Ghost ring BUIS
5. Accuracy - 12" @ 180' is my goal. Not really high, but just what I need.
Now, this isn't designed as a sniper rifle. This is going to be designed as a scouting rifle, something light, maneuverable, easy to cock quickly, and accurate to the distance I need it to be.
My starting weapon is the Well. I have had loads of luck with the TSD SD700/MB03, which has become my "race" bolt action rifle. I was blown away by the performance, especially when considering the price. This is just the short barreled version of the MB03, so I would feel right at home.
Airsplat was kind enough to contribute a brand new Well to this build. The gun is available HERE priced at $79.95, including a scope and a bipod. Once you see what this thing can become, you'll be pretty amazed with the price as well.
Here is the gun bone stock:
Not much to look at now, but we'll fix that in a bit.
The first thing I needed to do is to strip the stock down to nothing, as it is getting sent out to Hydro Dip for application of a Multicam finish using a Water Transfer process. If you haven't seen this type of finish, you'll be in for a treat. The stock should be back in a few days.
Now on to the functional bits. The gun chronoed at a respectable 430 FPS pretty consistently out of the box. The bolt pull is light and smooth, and the spring will likely not get changed. I did, however pull a trick I learned when working on my MB03, and I custom lathed the cylinder head for a smoother flow. This was VERY easily done by clamping the air nozzle in a power drill, turning it on, and shaping the inner edge with a dremel tool and sandpaper.
You can see the before and after here:

Now, why do this? This leads to smoother airflow out of the cylinder (in theory). In the real world, I netted a 15 FPS gain (!) with no other change of parts. It now chronoes at 445 FPS very consistently.
Next up were the iron sights. I happened to have some ghost ring iron sights from an ACM shotgun that I no longer use, so they were donated to the cause. I removed the scope mount (which will be mounted forward) and put the rear sight on the front of the receiver, using the existing screw and hole. I put a grub screw in the front hole to secure the outer barrel. The front sight was mounted using a self tapping metal screw, into a pilot hole drilled into the outer barrel.
So, what's next? The scope mount will get relocated just forward of the receiver, and a long eye relief scope will get mounted. It will use high mounts in order to use the iron sights without having to remove them. The upper receiver may get painted a tan color to better blend with the upcoming Multicam stock finish, but we will decide when it arrives. Hopefully in the near future, I will be able to get one of Noobie's new hop-up systems to install in here, but we will see when they are made available.
Thusfar, two goals have already been met, as the rifle is 37.5" long, and has ghost ring iron sights. Let's hope we can get that whole list checked off!
