KJW USP P8 Gas Airsoft Blowback Gun
In this article, the KJW USP P8 gas blowback pistol will be reviewed and discussed. This article will explore the insides as well as the externals of the gun ranging from its first impressions to performance. It will give the reader an inside look of what KJW USP P8 is all about.
KJW USP P8 First Impressions:
What first impressions many people would have about the Gas Blowback Handgun KJW USP P8 is its heft. It feels great on the hand because it is not too heavy and nor too light. Its grip is also very comfortable to hold. Most of its weight is coming from the magazine, although true for many other pistols.
In comparison with the KWA G17 Pistol , the KJW USP airsoft gun is about 2 to 3 times heavier. Its grip is also much wider and feels better.
The slide color, however, is different from the gun as shown in the left image below. Its dark grayish hue makes it stand out from the gun color, but it does not look tacky.
At first glance, it is noticeable that the pistol is completely lacking of trademarks except for some markings on the side, such as the writing "9mmX19." This print is also present on the magazine along with two columns of indentation numbered 4 - 15 on the back side as shown on the right image below. There are markings on the trigger which is a little less noticeable. There is also one on the metal strip that is found under the barrel. It has numbers that has no known purpose, perhaps production count.
The Magazine for KJW USP P8 :
One important thing to note about the procedure when filling up the blowback magazine with green gas is to hold the Valve Lock Down, otherwise it will leak out. The following is the procedure of how to fill in up the KJW USP P8 airsoft mag with gas and 0.2g BB pellets.
Upon taking the mag out of the well, push the Valve Lock down, flip the mag over, and begin to fill it. Make sure to hold the can upside down, parallel to the floor, and hold it for 2 - 3 seconds. Also, be careful not to overfill it.
Next, fill the magazine out with BBs. First, pull the spring latch down to make room for the pellets. Once it is down, manually loading the BBs is fairly easy since the mag only takes in about 15 count. It can also be filled using a funnel, which is sold separately. The pellets seem staggered and rattles inside when the BBs are filled in, but not to worry since they are not visible anyway. The manual says that only 15 BBs can fit in the magazine. While this is not true, since it can actually fit 16, it is best stick to what the manual states just to be safe.
KJW USP P8 Airsoft Gun's Functionality and Points:
There are three points of functionality that is obvious upon observing the gun. They are:
Safety Switch: This switch, clearly marked F and S for Fire and Safety respectively, is located at the rear of the USP P8 airsoft pistol under the slide. The grip is comfortable to hold. One thing to note is that the lever for the Safety mode is to the bottom, while the Fire mode is to the top. This makes it easy to just thumb the switch UP from the safety mode when ready to fire. Another thing to note about the switch is that it does not lock the trigger. Although the trigger can still be pulled, it does not move back far enough to allow the gun to fire.
Slide Catch: Located just between the metal slide and the triger, it is very easy to manipulate. Perfectly placed in front of the safety, it is easily accessed by the thumb. The catch stops the slide to let the shooter know when the magazine needs to be filled up again.
Magazine Release: Again, this release is perfectly positioned and it functions efficiently. Located directly below and behind the trigger, just push the lever and the mag slides out easily.
KJW USP Performance: The KJW USP P8 airsoft pistol takes a bit of breaking into, but it does not take as long. At first, the BBs may shoot dull and not as accurate, so keep working with it. Just to note about GBB magazine, however, that when it is filled with gas, try not to empty it by pressing on the valve because the gas coming out may damage the O-ring and the Seals. Although if necessary, proceed to do so with caution. The KJW USP P8's perforamance is great once broken into.
Hop-up: The adjustable hop-up comes inside the box with the gun, and it consists of a small allen wrench and a screw. In order to adjust the hop-up, the barrel assembly needs to be taken apart. It is a bit of a hassle and it is not a necessity to do so since the gun seem to shoot fairly good without the hopup in place. However, for the purposes of getting to know the KJW USP P8 internals, it would be a good idea to read on.
The following are the steps for the KJW USP P8 airsoft hop-up adjustment accompanied by images below text to facilitate the full description:
Step 1: Slide Removal
In order to remove the slide, slightly pull it back and line up the notch with the front of the slide catch. Press the slide catch on opposite sides and it will pop out. The entire slide section will slide forward and out once the slide catch is pressed.
Step 2: Slide Disassembly
The bolt components that are screwed inside the back of the slide needs to be removed in order to remove the barrel assembly. Remove the two screws that are in place. Note that they are towards the right of the slide in picture Number 2 below. Then lift the metal section out.
Step 3: Barrel Assembly
It should be possible to lift the barrel assembly out once the bolt is out. There are two parts in the barrel assembly as shown in picture Number 3 below. They are (A) the Outer Barrel, and (B) the Inner Barrel. Looking at the picture, remove the small screw that is labeled (C) below to remove the Outer Barrel. Once removed, the Inner Barrel will slide right out.
Step 4: Hop-Up
Once the inner barrel in place, turn it over and locate the small hole in the bottom. The hop-up can now be inserted. Using the small allen wrench provided, insert the screw in (also provided).
Step 5: Adjusting the Hop-Up
The hop-up is very annoying to adjust. The process of taking it down and putting it back together is a tedious process especially if the hop-up needs further adjustment. The disassembly described above repeated over and over until the right adjustment is reached. Then again, as mentioned above, hop-up adjustment is not even necessary since it shoot fairly accurate already with the use of .20g BBs.
The Japanese company KWA / KSC also manufactures a metal gas blowback USP pistol.
The gun is very pleasing despite its initial breaking into. It makes a great backup weapon in skirmishes, since it seems to be accurate at close ranges. Although this is an opinion that the individual user must try out for him or herself.
This airsoft gun is not to be misrepresented as a real firearm or gun that is manufactured by Heckler & Koch and is merely an airsoft gun that fires 6mm pellets. The manufacturer of this airsoft gun is KJW.
